“Booyah! Spirit” Reviews

Congratulations, Sheila, on an extraordinary feat. This is a lifetime of one woman’s real-life learning and experience, folded into the best bedside book I’ve ever read or owned.  Sheila’s subtitle is ’52 ingredients for a healthy soul’ and it sure has a feeling of a special family recipe prepared with love and care by a mother with a desire to create better “eating” habits in her community and in her world.

This is a matter-of-fact, no-BS zone, that covers every aspect of modern living and the practical needs of ANY spirit. Yep, I reckon our spirits need a bit more of what’s practical and real – enough with the crystals and the mantras and the holy texts and the gurus (although there’s the odd mention) – if we’re gonna grow healthier communities of people who truly care, respect, and mature, without blame and guilt, and with fun and adventure, here’s a resource for every Mother, every Dad, every schoolteacher, every principal, every business owner, every grandparent, everyone with any responsibility at all for growing kids, families, people.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for so much that has truly “sung” to me – take for instance: “… parents often do not feel appreciated until the child is old enough… This usually happens when they leave the nest and … figure out that clean dishes are found in the cupboard…” Indeed.  An endless string of the best of all quips intersperses Sheila’s own photographs, lists, advice, recipes, wisdom and clear definitions of the most important things. “There is no cure for birth or death save to enjoy the interval.” (George Santayana)  Bless.  ~ Sue Fitzmaurice, author of Angels in the Architecture

When I first learned of Sheila M. Burke’s book “Booyah Spirit: 52 Ingredients for a Healthy Soul. Suffering is Optional” I was intrigued by the title. For me, the word “Booyah” brings up immediate images of the bell ringing, bull snorting Jim Cramer of CNBC’s “Mad Money.” But although Cramer’s show has become famous for the “Booyah” greeting, the word actually has its origins in the French language and is the name of a type of food prepared like a stew and meant to serve a large number of people. It’s also a statement of joy that one makes after accomplishing something special. In both respects, Ms. Burke has chosen rightly in the naming of her book. “Booyah Spirit” is indeed a nourishing offering of 52 mini-essays meant to inform a large number of people on subjects including how to meditate, balance, gumption, delight, adventure, coincidence, benevolence, celebration and so many more. You might choose to savor and digest one per week over the course of a year, or if you’re like me you might choose to devour the whole thing in a few sittings. Either way, the words are satisfying and nutritious. Sheila’s book will also nourish your spirit, and I wholeheartedly recommend it.  ~ Review by Shaeri Richards, author of  Dancing with your Dragon: The Art of Loving your Unlovable Self

I loved this second book from Sheila Burke! The mix of science and practical, down-to earth advise about how to live a life of zen and happiness is the perfect read for anybody seeking clarity. As a life coach, I am drawn to books such as Booyah!, that allow the reader to glean words of wisdom and thought-provoking discussion in little bits at a time. The way the book is set up allows for slow and lasting change that can be implemented immediately by the reader.

I keep my own book of Booyah! Spirit on my bedside nightstand. I read a little each night, and sometimes in the morning to remind myself how to start the day off in a positive and beautiful way. And for a gift idea? How about homemade aromatherapy recipes with the book in a basket! Perfect for that hard-to-buy for person.

I highly recommend Booyah! Spirit. Enjoy the read, and the journey it will lead you to………
